Usage Note

Signer means to put one's signature on a document, contract, or artwork. The related noun signature is identical in spelling to the English word. In sporting and business contexts, signer un contrat ('to sign a contract') is very common in press coverage, and se signer (reflexive) means to make the sign of the cross.
