Usage Note
Adjuger is the formal verb used at auctions when the auctioneer finalises a sale: adjugé, vendu ! ('going, gone!') is the traditional call. Outside auctions it can mean to award a contract or prize. The reflexive s'adjuger means to claim something for oneself: il s'est adjugé la victoire (he claimed victory).
