Serviteur is the formal or literary term for a male servant; servante is the feminine equivalent. In modern usage it appears mainly in historical contexts, formal speeches, or set phrases like votre serviteur ('your humble servant'), a polite self-deprecating formula. The word domestique is more common for a household servant today.
