saligaud

scoundrel, bastard (vulgar)

noun sa-lee-GOH Rare

Usage Note

saligaud is a vulgar insult for a contemptible or filthy person, stronger than salaud but used in similar contexts. It derives from sale (dirty). The feminine form saligaude exists but is rare. The word is coarse; use it only to understand it when heard, not in polite conversation.

Examples

"Quel saligaud, il a menti à tout le monde."

Natural Translation

What a scoundrel — he lied to everyone.
