Réserve covers both a stock or supply (une réserve de nourriture — a food supply) and the act of holding back or expressing a caveat (avec réserve — with reservation). In environmental contexts, une réserve naturelle is a nature reserve. Sous réserve de is a formal phrase meaning 'subject to' or 'pending'.
