Usage Note
Acheter is a stem-changing verb: the e in the stem takes a grave accent before a silent ending (j'achète, nous achetons). Faire ses achats means 'to do one's shopping.' The opposite is vendre (to sell). Avoid confusing acheter with acquérir (to acquire), which is more formal and covers non-purchase acquisitions.
Examples
"J'ai acheté du pain ce matin."
Natural Translation
I bought some bread this morning.
