Roue is the basic word for a wheel, used for vehicles, machinery, and fairground rides (une grande roue = a Ferris wheel). The expression faire la roue means to do a cartwheel or, of a peacock, to spread its tail. A derived word is rouler (to roll, to drive), sharing the Latin 'rota' root.
