ressaisir

to pull oneself together, to regain composure

verb ruh-seh-ZEER Rare

Usage Note

ressaisir is almost always used reflexively as se ressaisir — 'to get a grip on oneself' or 'to regain control'. Ressaisis-toi ! is a direct command meaning 'pull yourself together!'. The non-reflexive use (to seize something back) is rarer and more literary.

Examples

"Elle a réussi à se ressaisir rapidement."

Natural Translation

She managed to pull herself together quickly.
