Usage Note

Renseigner is transitive: renseigner quelqu'un sur quelque chose ('to inform someone about something'). The reflexive se renseigner means 'to find out, to make enquiries' and is very common. Un renseignement (m) is a piece of information; les renseignements also refers to intelligence services.
