rassasier

to satisfy (hunger)

verb rah-sah-ZYAY Rare

Also means

to satiate

Usage Note

Rassasier means to satisfy hunger fully, to the point of being full. The reflexive form se rassasier ('to eat one's fill') is very common. Figuratively, one can be rassasié de something — rassasié de compliments ('sated with praise'). It should not be confused with satisfaire (to satisfy in a general sense) — rassasier is specifically about appetite, whether literal or figurative.

Examples

"Ce repas copieux m'a bien rassasié."

Natural Translation

This hearty meal has well satisfied my hunger.

Literal Translation

This copious meal has well satiated me.
