Usage Note
Pâte refers both to uncooked dough (for bread, pastry, etc.) and generically to pasta before cooking; the plural les pâtes specifically means cooked pasta as a dish. Pâte feuilletée is puff pastry and pâte brisée is shortcrust pastry. The word also appears in pâte à tartiner (spread, like Nutella).
