Protestant functions as both an adjective (une église protestante) and a noun (un protestant). The feminine form is protestante. In France, Protestants are a minority (around 2%), with a notable historic community in the Cévennes region; the Edict of Nantes (1598) guaranteed their rights until its revocation in 1685.
