prêt

ready

adjective PREH Common

Also means

willing

Usage Note

Prêt is followed by à + infinitive to express readiness to do something, as in prêt à partir ('ready to leave'). The feminine form is prête — the final t is silent in the masculine but pronounced in the feminine. Don't confuse it with the noun un prêt (a loan, as in a bank loan), a homonym spelled and pronounced identically.

Examples

"Tu es prêt à partir maintenant?"

Natural Translation

Are you ready to leave now?
