Usage Note

Position is a near-cognate with English and covers physical location, a job position, and a stance or viewpoint (prendre position = to take a stand). In sport it refers to a player's position. The phrase en position de means 'in a position to' — as in je ne suis pas en position de juger (I am not in a position to judge).
