Usage Note
Pleur is nearly always used in the plural: des pleurs ('tears, weeping'). The singular is literary or archaic. The more common expression is en pleurs ('in tears') or the verb pleurer ('to cry'). Fondre en pleurs means 'to burst into tears', a vivid colloquial phrase.
