Usage Note

Pipe refers to a smoking pipe (fumer la pipe) or, in technical contexts, a pipe carrying fluid. It is not used for water pipes in plumbing, where tuyau is preferred. Casser sa pipe is an informal expression meaning to die ('to kick the bucket').
