Usage Note

Pincée is used almost exclusively in cooking: une pincée de sel ('a pinch of salt'). It derives from pincer ('to pinch') and refers to the amount held between thumb and forefinger. The plural is regular: deux pincées de poivre ('two pinches of pepper').
