Usage Note
Pet is the everyday, slightly vulgar but not taboo word for flatulence; the verb is péter. Péter les plombs (to blow a fuse, to snap) and péter de santé (to be bursting with health) are common idioms where péter has lost its literal meaning. The word is pronounced with a short open 'e' — do not confuse with pet in English.
Examples
"L'enfant a lâché un pet et a rigolé."
Natural Translation
The child let out a fart and laughed.
