Usage Note

Pesant describes something heavy in weight or oppressive in feel, and the final -t is silent. The feminine form is pesante. It can describe physical weight (un fardeau pesant) or metaphorical weight, such as un silence pesant (an oppressive silence). Do not confuse with lourd, which is the more common synonym.
