Usage Note
Abstrait describes concepts, art, or thought that is not concrete or representational. In art history it refers specifically to abstract art (l'art abstrait), contrasted with figuratif. The feminine form is abstraite, and the noun l'abstrait can be used to mean 'the abstract' as a domain, as in dans l'abstrait (in the abstract).
Examples
"Ce concept est trop abstrait pour moi."
Natural Translation
