Usage Note
Pauvrette is an affectionate or pitying diminutive of pauvre (poor), used exclusively for women or girls. The masculine equivalent is pauv' type in informal French, or simply pauvret (rare). It is spoken rather than written, and carries a tone somewhere between sympathy and condescension depending on context.
