Parole most commonly means 'word' in the sense of speech or what someone says (tenir sa parole, to keep one's word; prendre la parole, to take the floor/speak). In plural, les paroles are the lyrics of a song. It is distinct from mot (a single written or spoken word as a unit). The expression parole d'honneur means 'word of honour'.
