Usage Note

Parlé appears most often in the set phrase la langue parlée (the spoken language), contrasted with la langue écrite (the written language). As the past participle of parler, it also functions in compound tenses: j'ai parlé (I spoke). In linguistic contexts, le français parlé refers to colloquial, everyday French distinct from formal written norms.
