Usage Note
pare-brise is an invariable compound noun (the plural is also pare-brise, no -s added). It is formed from parer ('to deflect') + brise ('breeze, wind'). In North American French the word is the same; 'windshield' is the American English term, 'windscreen' the British one. Un essuie-glace ('windscreen wiper') is the related word for the wiper.
Examples
