Usage Note

Palourde is the common French word for the carpet clam or hard-shell clam, a popular shellfish in French cuisine. It is frequently prepared farcies (stuffed with garlic butter and parsley) or served raw on a seafood platter (plateau de fruits de mer). The masculine equivalent term for the class of bivalves is bivalve (m), while coquillage (m) is the general word for shellfish/mollusc.
