palais

palace

noun pah-LEH Less Common

Also means

palate (of the mouth)

Usage Note

palais is both an architectural term ('royal palace') and the anatomical term for the palate. Le Palais de Justice is the courthouse; le Palais Bourbon houses the French National Assembly. Because the word is the same for both senses, context always clarifies.

Natural Translation

The palace is open to the public this weekend.
