Usage Note

Oreille is also used figuratively: avoir de l'oreille means to have a good ear for music. Tendre l'oreille means to prick up one's ears and listen carefully. An oreiller (pillow) shares the same root, originally meaning something you rest your ear on. The final '-ille' is pronounced as a 'y' sound.
