Usage Note

Obsèques is always plural in French and refers to the funeral ceremony itself, carrying a more formal and solemn register than enterrement (burial) or funérailles. You will see it in formal announcements: les obsèques auront lieu... (the funeral will take place...). The final -s is always silent.
