Usage Note

Objet means a physical object or item, but also the subject line of a formal letter — objet: votre demande ('subject: your request') — and the grammatical object of a verb. Sans objet means 'irrelevant' or 'not applicable' in administrative French. Objet d'art has been borrowed directly into English.
