Usage Note
Néerlandais is the official French term for 'Dutch' (relating to the Netherlands), preferred in formal and geographic contexts over the informal hollandais, which strictly refers only to the province of Holland. As a noun, le néerlandais is the Dutch language, and un Néerlandais is a Dutch person (feminine: une Néerlandaise). The Dutch themselves call their language Nederlands.
