Nécrologie refers to an obituary notice or a column of death notices in a newspaper, as well as the broader practice of recording deaths. La rubrique nécrologique is the obituaries section of a newspaper. The adjective is nécrologique ('un avis nécrologique' = 'an obituary notice'). It is a formal, journalistic word; everyday speech might simply say l'avis de décès.
