Usage Note
Nombre is used for abstract quantity and large counts (un grand nombre de personnes — a large number of people), whereas numéro is used for an identifying or sequential number (numéro de téléphone). Bon nombre de (a good number of) is a set phrase. In grammar, le nombre refers to the singular/plural distinction.
