Usage Note
Moquette in French specifically means a fitted carpet glued or tacked to the floor, not a loose rug (un tapis). It was originally a cut-pile fabric used for upholstery. The word is also used for the carpet-like seat fabric in buses and trains — la moquette du TGV is a recognizable feature of French trains.
Examples
"Ils ont posé une moquette bleue dans le salon."
Natural Translation
They laid a blue fitted carpet in the living room.
