Usage Note

Ministère refers to a government department headed by a ministre ('minister'). Le ministère de l'Éducation is the Ministry of Education. The building or its staff can also be called le ministère. Not to be confused with ministère in a religious sense, which in French is usually ministère pastoral or simply mission.
