Usage Note
Mademoiselle was traditionally used to address an unmarried woman, equivalent to 'Miss'. Since 2012, French administrative forms no longer include it as an official title, and only Madame and Monsieur are used in official contexts. It is still heard in polite conversation, though some women find it presumptuous to be addressed this way rather than as Madame.
