Mac is a vulgar slang term for a pimp, short for maquereau (literally 'mackerel'), which is the more common slang form. It is used in informal and criminal-register speech. The female equivalent une maquerelle refers to a woman who runs a prostitution ring. Avoid in formal contexts.
