Usage Note
légendaire has the same form for masculine and feminine (invariable gender). It is used both for figures from legend (un héros légendaire) and colloquially for anything exceptionally famous or admired: son humour légendaire ('his legendary sense of humour'). The noun is légende ('legend, caption'), and the -aire ending indicates an adjective formed from a noun.
