Usage Note
Longuement indicates duration or thoroughness and often collocates with verbs of thought or speech: réfléchir longuement, parler longuement. It is more literary than longtemps (a long time) and implies deliberateness rather than mere duration. It is never used to describe a physical distance.
Examples
"Il a longuement réfléchi avant de répondre."
Natural Translation
He thought at length before answering.
