Laurier refers to both the bay laurel tree used as a culinary herb (feuilles de laurier = bay leaves) and the laurel of ancient victory wreaths. The expression se reposer sur ses lauriers means 'to rest on one's laurels'. Laurier-rose is the oleander plant.
