Lampadaire has two main senses: a tall free-standing floor lamp used indoors, and a street lamp or lamp post outdoors. Context usually disambiguates the two. It derives from lampe (lamp). The outdoor sense is also covered by réverbère in literary French, but lampadaire is the neutral modern term for both.
