Usage Note
Laid (feminine laide) means physically ugly or visually unpleasant, and can apply to objects, places, or weather as well as people. The final d is silent. The superlative expression c'est laid comme tout means 'it's terribly ugly.' The abstract noun is laideur (ugliness).
