Usage Note
Juron is the standard, neutral word for a swear word or expletive in French. Unlike in English, many traditional French jurons have religious origins ('sacré', 'sacrebleu', 'nom de Dieu'); the related verb jurer means both 'to swear (an oath)' and 'to swear/curse'. A gros mot is a more informal synonym focusing on vulgarity rather than cursing.
Examples
"Il a lâché un juron en tombant."
Natural Translation
He let out a swear word when he fell.
