Usage Note
Immigrant refers to a person who has come to settle in a country, and should be distinguished from immigré, which often carries a stronger social or administrative connotation in French public discourse. The feminine form is immigrante. Note that immigrant (arriving) contrasts with émigrant (departing from one's country of origin).
