Usage Note

Héros has an unusual pronunciation: the 'h' is aspirate, so le héros is said without liaison (not l'héros). The feminine form héroïne means both 'heroine' and the drug heroin — context always separates them. The adjective héroïque means 'heroic', and héroïsme is 'heroism'.
