Groupe (note the final 'e' — the spelling 'group' in the seed is an anglicism) is the standard French word for a group of people, a musical band, or a corporate group. Un groupe de travail is a working group, and un groupe de rock is a rock band. The word entered French from Italian groppo in the 17th century.
