Usage Note

Glisser is used for physical slipping (on ice, a wet floor) and for figuratively inserting something subtly: glisser un mot ('to slip in a word'). The reflexive se glisser dans means 'to slip into' (a room, a conversation). The noun glissière ('slide rail, zip') shares the root.
