Givrer comes from givre (frost, hoarfrost) and means to coat with frost or ice, as happens to windscreens and aircraft wings. The reflexive se givrer describes a surface icing up on its own. In cooking, givrer un verre means to frost a glass by rimming it with sugar or salt. The past participle givré also means 'crazy' in informal French slang.
