gaiement (also spelled gaîment) is the adverb from gai (cheerful). It conveys lighthearted, unconcerned happiness. The phrase prendre les choses gaiement means to take things in good humour. An alternative spelling gaîment with a circumflex is accepted in traditional orthography.
