Usage Note

Futé is informal and colloquial, closer to 'sharp' or 'streetwise' than academically intelligent. The feminine form is futée. It often carries an admiring tone: elle est vraiment futée (she's really sharp). A near-synonym is malin/maligne, though futé is slightly warmer in register.

Examples

"Ce gamin est vraiment futé."
