Usage Note
Forêt refers to a large wooded area and is more formal than bois ('woods, grove'), which is smaller. The circumflex accent in forêt indicates a historical 's' (cf. English 'forest'). The expression se perdre dans la forêt ('to get lost in the forest') also appears metaphorically.
Examples
"Les enfants jouent dans la forêt."
Natural Translation
The children play in the forest.
